Public transport to cinque terre

We are thinking of staying at Camping River camp site at Ameglia-Armezzon in our motorhome in the next day or so. Can anyone tell us how difficult it is to get to cinque terre by public transport.... they say public transport is at 1/2klm? not sure if this goes to La Spezia and then we catch a train to the first town on cinque terre. Also is there any town with restaurants within walking distance of the town? Looking forward to a reply. Bumper6

The only restaurant within easy walking distance of your camping is the Hotel Gori right on the main road (statale), which offers really good pizza as well as a regular menu. There's a restaurant in the historic center of Ameglia, Locanda dei Poeti, if you walk up, about 20 minutes I'd guess.

For public transport to Cinque Terre you'd have to take a bus to Romito Magra and change for a bus to La Spezia and then train to CT. We have schedule info and links on our Getting Around La Spezia story.

Also look at the parking links on the above story. Perhaps you could drive your motorhome to a secure parking in La Spezia, but I have no knowledge of such things.

I would suggest rethinking the CT as it's crowded, expensive, and it's hardly the only pretty place in Liguria. If you want to experience a fantastic Ligurian fishing village that certainly compares favorably to CT, you can walk across the peninsula to Tellaro - about an hour each way, with the option of busing back and seeing wonderful Lerici on the way. Described in our stories, The Bride's Walk and Castle to Castle.

Also your map or GPS may show a bridge across the Magra River at Ameglia. However, it was washed out last year, and the replacement won't be ready until late summer.

Happy Trails, Mike
