Rental car Florence to Venice

We will be visiting Florence for three days and on to Venice. Will be arriving in Florence by train. Where can we pick up a rental car from the Florence train station and which companies allow drop off in Venice? We want to take public transportation but have golf clubs.

Any major rental company will allow pick-up in central Florence and drop-off in Venice.

However, pick-up in central Florence is sometimes difficult because of the proximity of rental locations to the ZTL (limited traffic zone) in the city centre.

Driving to Venice takes around four hours without stops, and costs around €50 in tolls and fuel in addition to the rental charge. There are direct trains at least once an hour, which take about two hours.

I wouldnt bother driving, it will work out a lot cheaper to book train tickets via Trenitalia website in advance then it would for car rental and parking charges.

If you are going to do any travel by train, you will curse your decision to carry golf clubs.

For train travel, it is essential that you do not have more luggage than you can *comfortably* handle by yourselves. There is nobody to help you at the stations, there may be stairs to the platforms, and there are always a few steep steps up into the train. And the luggage storage areas are not suitable for golf clubs.
