Getting to Como (and then to Tremezzo) from Milan Malpensa

Hi I need some help figuring out how to buy train tickets from Milan to Como and then hydrofoil tickets from Como to Tremezzo. It looks like there is an express train (Malpensa express) from Malpensa to Saronno, but I can't figure out how to buy the tickets, and how to buy a ticket from Saronno to Como. Also I have been told to take the hydrofoil ferry from Como to Tremezzo. Should we/ can we buy those tickets in advance?

If we need to wait until arriving in Italy to buy any or all of these tickets that's fine too - I'm in the gathering information mode. Thank you for any help!!!

You buy the ticket at the train station in Malpensa Airport - one ticket all the way to Como Nord Lago train station. There are no reserved seats on these local trains, so no need to buy in advance.

Similarly with the boat - buy on the quayside, which is close to the train station.

Thank you! I was able to check the train schedule but could not buy a ticket so that is what I figured was the case. How difficult will it be to travel with luggage on the train/ferry? Thank you for your help

Taking luggage on the ferry isn't terribly difficult (you're allowed two pieces per person without charge, and there are ramps for rolling on and off), but make sure you're not too overburdened -- hauling it onto and off of the train, down stairs at the Saronno station where you'll change for Como (there's an escalator for going up, but not down), and maneuvering it down the aisle can be something of a pain, particularly when it's crowded at commute hours.

Excellent advice Kat_Testarossa......

People forgot the pains of travelling on trains in Italy so often- up and down steps, from one platform to another and then down the aisles of the busy trains themselves.

It's now possible to get a train all the way through to Como - just ask for that ticket at the airport station., This will save you quite a bit of time and money. There is now a train that goes through from Malpensa Airport to Milan Porta Garibaldi Station, If you get off here you can pick up a train to Como San Giovanni station (this is not beside the lake). Then you can take the C10 bus to Tremezzo - buy your bus ticket at the bar..

to Simplejoys Is this a better option to changing at Saronno and do you arrive at a different station in Como? Thanks

You arrive at a different station in Como. It's no simpler than going via Saronno, and it costs €14.55 instead of €8.75 to Como Lago. Also, the bus supposedly sometimes fills up making it difficult to get on at Como San Giovanni, which is unlikely to happen if you board at its starting point at the bus station next to Como Lago station. But taking the bus is certainly cheaper than the fast boat.
