There's a new coin-op laundromat in Stresa. I didn't get the address but it's on Via Roma (one-way toward mountains) just past the intersection with Via Edmondo De Amicis. There's free one-hour parking along Via Roma directly opposite the laundromat. It's open 7 days a week. I went on a Sunday and it closed at 9 pm.
They have two large washers, two small washers, two large dryers, and a change machine. The washers automatically add detergent! All equipment works very well. It took one dryer only 20 minutes to dry a load of denim jeans. Don't add a Bounce sheet as it could ignite. No joke, the owner actually told me that. Instructions are in Italian and English. If you need help, there's a cell phone number on the wall. The owners must live/work nearby as they were popping in and out.
Anecdote: It was a miracle that we found this place. We were way overdue for laundry after our hotel in Como sent us to a dry cleaner (who refused our job) and then our hotel in Verbania didn't do laundry on weekends. When I asked about coin-op, the front desk clerk gave me a blank look and said she'd never seen anything like that. So we piled the laundry in the car and drove to Stresa on a Sunday evening. After driving around town for awhile, I stopped at the "Hotel Meeting" on Via Ruggero Bonghi and asked. The man was really nice. He stepped out onto the street with me and pointed. We were only a block away. I think we had already driven past the laundromat twice without noticing it! He said it had only been open for two weeks (as of May 2007).
