Milan to Lake Como then Cinque Terre then fly to Athens?

Please advise me on traveling from Milan to Lake Como and then to Cinque Terre. We need to end up flying to Athens when finished in Italy. Is this the right sequence? Should we use trains? Which city should we fly into from the US? Please help!

The sequence seems fine. As you want to start in Milan, I would suggest you fly into Milan airport. For your flight to Athens, the closest airport to the Cinque Terre is Pisa. Florence and Genoa are also reasonably close.

For these destinations, train is the obvious way to travel. You can get train times and costs from www.trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html but it is unlikely you will be able to book through this site, as it seldom accepts cards issued outside Europe. If you have problems, just buy the train tickets in Italy.

The Trenitalia site does not yet have information beyond 12 June, and some of these trains are local trains for which price information is not shown more than 7 days ahead. Times and costs are unlikely to change much, so use travel dates in the next week for your planning.

There are no direct flights from Pisa to Athens. You might prefer to return to Milan rather than taking an internal flight to Rome for transfer, which is what I believe Alitalia will offer you.

Additional airlines flying direct from Milan to Athens are Olympic and Lufthansa.

For train times throughout Italy see http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html entering a date before June 12 when schedules change, though not by much. For Malpensa airport just enter 'Malpensa' - but only use trains from there if going to Como. For other places take the airport bus to Milan. For the Cinque Terre you must enter the name of a specific village, e.g. Monterosso, as each village has its own station with different schedules.
