An Italian Education by Tim Parks

Bon giorno,

I've been reading a bunch of books lately about Italy and not just Venice. I enjoyed this one by Tim Parks who is English and lives outside of Verona with his Italian wife and 3 chldren who he describes as "becoming Italians". The book is non-fiction about children, parents, school, obstetricians, buying a home, grandparents, and the beach at Pescara in summer.

It is not a new book but the descriptions just made me smile and I think we all need a smile these days.

Has anyone read it? Thoughts??

Yes Tim Parks is quite a character.

He makes light of the difficulties faced by people when moving to Italy and does it much better than Tobias Jones in his book The Dark Heart of Italy.

Tim also did a book called A Season with Verona when he describes going to various matches as a Verona supporter.

As someone living in Italy and well versed in the problems that can be faced, he makes it very funny but not in a rude or offensive way.

I like his style.
