A Travel story from Treviso

Just came home from a short trip to Treviso and want to share my experience. We have been to Venice before and therefore we decided to stay in Treviso for three nights. We landed on Good Friday evening and took the local bus 6 from the airport. We bought the ticket in the bus for 2.50€ (cheaper if you by it inside the airport). There were restaurants open in Treviso but we just had a quick burger at McDonald’s.

On Saturday morning we took a long walk outside of the town. During the afternoon we did some window shopping in the town. There are a lot of fashion shops and they were open on Easter Saturday. It was raining heavily and after some stops for a cappuccino, lunch, a glass of wine in different places, it was time for a rest at our hotel Continental. We liked the hotel, it is a little bit old fashion in a nice way, staff was friendly and the bar was comfortable. In the evening we had a glass of Prosecco in the bar, a good dinner (grilled beef with radicchio) in a romantic restaurant (don’t remember the name) and then a glass of a very good grappa (the yellow one) at the hotel bar before going to bed.

As it was still raining heavily on Sunday we took a train to Venice to see the High Mass at Basilica San Marco. The train departs quite often and takes approximately 30 minutes. The Mass starts 10.30 and you should be there at 10.00 because the queue was long. We enjoyed the Mass and specially the music even if we didn’t understand a word. After a cappuccino in the afternoon we decided to leave the crowded Venice and took the train back to Treviso. It had finally stopped raining and we enjoyed some time at the Piazza dei Signori. Shops were closed, our hotel bar was closed (as several bars and restaurants) but you could still find open places to drink and eat. We enjoyed a dinner with a very good risotto and had a grappa on another Piazza.

It was mostly sunny on Monday and we made a long walk following the town wall. All shops were closed but that did not bother us at all. A pizza at the Piazza dei Signori tasted delicious before we had to leave this beautiful town and fly back home. It will take several weeks before we can have a lunch outside again as the spring is very late in Stockholm.

The airport is within easy reach and the size of the town is perfect for a weekend trip. There are enough shops, restaurants and people to watch to have great time. We prefer small towns without mass tourism and we loved Treviso.
