Hostels on Venice Island or Mestre?

Forum Family,

Please give us some help...we are a family of 5 (3 young teens) spending a weekend in Venice. Looking for something inexpensive on the island itself for selfish reasons (less commuting). We would like 2 rooms, hopefully 1 bathroom (yes hostels are definitely a consideration!) for under 200 euro/night. Can we find this on the island, or do we have to look in Mestre? Breakfast included would be beneficial, but not mandatory. I have been on numerous websites, but was looking for some sound, trustworthy advice. Would rather spend my money on the Doge's Palace Secret Itinerary Tour than on the hotel. We can't afford expensive restaurants when the kids enjoy pizza napoletano, so amenitites can be basic, but clean and safe. Help?

Thanks, Rosie

One possibility is the Istituto Don Orione on the Zattere very close to the Zattere water bus landing stage. Their website is www.donorione-venezia.it

I was also going to suggest the place noted by RobertJ. I haven't stayed there, but went in to get a brochure, and it seemed clean and well run. They advertise family rooms, and do have a breakfast room.

HI has a hostel in Venice

While I have not stayed there, I have stayed in other HI hostels in Italy. They are extremely clean, safe and friendly.

I have heard good things about the HI hostel in Venice.

okay, the Hotel Ai do Mori has rooms available for us, but they want us to send our credit card info through an email to them. They do not have a secure website to reserve with a credit card. The last time we did this, we ended up with fraudulant activity on our card. IS there some way to pay them without sending our information through an email?

You can send the credit card number in two emails, telling them you are doing so.

In the first email: 1234 5678 XXXX XXXX

In the second email: XXXX XXXX 1234 5678

No one is likely to intercpt two separate emails.

We just got back last week and stayed at a place that was maybe 50 m from the San Toma vap stop. Small room, but the AC worked fine and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast is included-all for 60 Euros.

I would not call Al Campaniel a hostel it is a good reasonable B&B.
