1st time in Venice, walking tour, parking

We will be in Venice on a Saturday in October. We will have only 1 day and would like to take a walking/boat tour. Please recommend the best English speaking walking/boat tour for seeing the most of Venice in a short time (3 to 4 hours or less tour.) Also, have read it is best to park on the mainland - either at Tronchetto parking and catch a boat into the city or near the railroad station in Mestre and train into the city. Where is the best place to park? Thank you.

Venice is not big but no way will you see most of it in 3 to 4 hours, get a good guide book and see what appeals to you ,

Parking at Mestre is the most ecconomical,

I`d vote for tronchetto and catch the boat. Ignore the touts trying to push you towards the taxis.

We have just returned from a holiday in Italy.

Last Friday we drove from our base near Lake Garda to Venice. Follow the signs to Venice, and cross the long rail/road bridge linking Venice to the mainland. At the end of the bridge the Tronchetto multi storey car park is on your right.

Park there, and take the vaporetti water bus from the Tronchetto pier next to the car park. You can buy the tickets from the car park cash desk.

Tonchetto is on line 2, which goes from Tronchetto to St Marks square. You can either go clockwise, through the Grande Canal, or anti-clockwise through the Guidecca Canal. Take the clockwise boat, that way you get to see the whole of the Grande Canal.

You can then explore on foot. When you are ready to return, walk up to the Rialto bridge, and catch the anti clockwise line 2 vaporetti back to Tronchetto.
