Food to take with us...

Greetings.

I have an early morning train from Venice - Milan coming up. Actually, that's only the first part of the trip... as we'll be going on to Ventimiglia and then Nice.

Can anyone recommend a place that sells take-away sandwiches or food?

We'll be staying at the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo and figured we'd get something the evening before to take with us the next day.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I don't remember the hotel having a fridge in the room to keep food.

Not sure what you could get that would be still fresh the next day?

There are a few small restaurants on the same street and there is a small grocery store in the nearby square but perhaps getting something right by the train station would be best depending on how early your train leaves?

Having looked at your hotel, no1 in venice, I'm sure that they'll be able to sort you out a packed lunch. Otherwise a sandwich made of salami will keep, cold pizza slice and cakes from a supermarket - the Rialto market area should have something open early if it's a market day or even near the station.

Thanks.

Yes, there is a mini fridge in all the rooms.

Train leaves just before 8AM.

In case anyone cares - we found plenty of options. All kinds of sandwiches and pizza and snacks at any cafe or bakery. Plus small markets selling bottles of water and wine for cheap. Water for .30 euro a bottle verses 1.5 euro a bottle elsewhere. What we got stores well in our hotel room mini fridge.

Plenty of options in Venice - even on days like today where some market stalls and shops closed up early or all together for the holiday.
