Orient Express with Great Rail Journeys

We are thinking about booking a trip with Great Rail Journeys on the Venice Simplon Orient Express. It is 9 days, travelling by Eurostar and TGV on the outward journey, staying over in Paris and Milan before arriving in Venice for 3 nights, then returning on the Orient Express. Has anyone done this trip or travelled with Great Rail Journeys? Interested to hear if the organisation, service and standard of hotels are good.

Thanks.

Sorry - no. I am always too anxious to get to Venice as quickly as I can to spend time on a train, however luxurious.

The Orent Express is magical and although expensive it is IMO a once in a lifetime exoerience ...more if you can afford it. never done the Eurostar though. Family members have done other journeys via Great Rail Journeys and they have all been excellent.

Thanks, that's reassuring. Might well go for it.

Or you can take the Eurostar to Paris and then travel on this sleeper train at a tiny fraction of the price: seat61.com/….Ub2Gkee1HTo

Last year we went from Newcastle to Venice by train, via Paris and Montreux. We used standard timetabled trains and bought our own tickets, The journey, particularly from Switzerland to Venice, is spectacular but on the Orient Express the best bit is in the dark. We did consider VSOE but decided against it in order to travel during the day,

I am sure that the VSOE is a fantastic experience but it depends what you want from your holiday. We travelled first class all the way and would do it again, the planning was quite easy (with help from "the man in seat 61"s website.

Enjoy your trip whichever way you decide to travel. Venice is an unbelieveable place to go to.
