train from Munich to Venice, next day Florence

late October we travel

1- Take early morning train Munich to Venice - which train? does ticket purchase also mean you have reservation? do you need reservation?

2- Need hotel in Venice for one night. Which hotel area? we will have the afternoon and the next morning in Venice.

3- The next morning see a few sights in Venice and then take the mid-day train to Florence. Which train? Which station? again, does ticket purchase mean you have reservation?

1. You can research schedules and buy tickets at bahn.de. The purchase will include the reservation.

2. Given your time frame I would focus on the Western half of Venice proper in your hotel search to be relatively close to the train station.

3. Lots of options on trenitalia.com and italotreno.it. Leave from Venezia S. Lucia station. The ticket will include the reservation, which also means it's for the most part nonrefundable and nonchangeable.

If you are sure of your travel dates and times, I would get tickets soon. Some of the advance deals may already be gone.

You may be overestimating how much time you'll have to enjoy Venice. It'll take at least 7 hours to get from Munich to Venice. Sunset will be around 5 or 6.

1. You take an Austrian train from Munich to Villach, then a bus run by the Austrian railways onwards to Venice. Ticket purchase includes seat reservation. See http://www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp

2. Venice is very small. It does not matter much where you stay.

3. There is only one train station actually in Venice: Venezia Santa Lucia. Ticket purchase includes seat reservation. See www.trenitalia.com or www.italotreno.it/EN

Sidneynick is right about the Austrian leg of the journey. You can buy from bahn.de only on direct trains from Munich. There's one that leaves around 11:30, but that means less time in Venice.
