Where to stay?

Hi All,

I will be going to Venice for two days in June and would like any ideas of areas to stay. We would like somewhere with close proximity to the centre due to the little time we are spending there. We would also like to be near nice restaurants/pubs for the evening.

We are then taking the train to Verona to go on to Lake Garda so I'm assuming we do not want to be too far from the station. Is it difficult to get to?

Also what is the best way to get to Venice from the Marco Polo airport?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks

I would decide on a hotel near a vaporetto stop for ease of arriving and departing . Maybe have a look at some of the many hotels on here then come back if you want any more help / tips or suggestions.

Marco Polo to Venice - lots of choices, No5 ACTV scheduled bus, ATVO express coach or land taxi all to Piazzale Roma in vencie and then on by water bus. You can then go on into Venice by water bus.

By water you have the slow Alilaguna ferry to a limited number of landing stages in Venice. See www.alilaguna.it for their various routes and fares. The expensive but very quick alternative is a private water taxi direct to your Hotel. These can be booked at the ConsorzioMotoscafe Venezia or Veneziataxi desks in the Arrivals Hall after you have landed.

Where to stay - all Venice is very safe and secure and Venice does not cover an enormous area so is very walkable or you can use the excellent public transport system - the water buses. All areas have much to offer visitors and there is so much to see and do that ypu will have to be very selective if all the time you can afford is two days. I suggest you study a good guide nook. I like the volumes on Venice produced by DK and Time Out.

Where to dine? There is an excellent guide to eating in Venice in Michela Scibilia's book "Venice Osterie". Departing for Verona by train. The only railway station In Venice is Santa Lucia on the banks of the Grand canal with the Ferrovia water bus landing stage immediately infront of the station. Water bus lines from all parts of Venice and the islands run frequently to the ferrovia landing stage in front o the station. See www.actv.it for lines, timetables and fares.
