If you take a slow regionale train it will be 4.75 euros one way and no need to purchase in advance. It will take about an hour each way.

A fast train will take about 30 minutes one way and cost 9 euros one way.

What do you mean by "the web site"? There are many web sites that try to give information on trains.

Use www.trenitalia.com clicking the UK flag to change to English and looking fro trains from Venezia Mestre to Vicenza, and using a travel date in the next 7 days to see the costs of local trains. You will see the cost varies between €4.75 and €24 for a one-way ticket.

There are no return tickets in Italy: you get 2 one-way tickets.

There is no difference between "slow" and "fast" trains between Mestre and Vicenza since Regionale Veloce ("slow") trains take 33 minutes and Frecciabianca ("fast") trains take 31 minutes.

Just avoid Regionale trains (63 minutes, calling everywhere).
