Doge's palace secret tour - do I need to take my passport?

I'm visiting Venice over Easter and have booked the Doge's palace secret tour online? Does anyone who had done the tour know if I need to bring my passport as ID or will a photocopy of it do? I'm always reluctant to carry my passport in case I lose it and I don't have a driving license. I do have an NUS extra card with a recent photo.

Any advice will be gratefully received.

No need at all, if you have booked the tour which you do need too, just the copy of the booking,

No, I never take my passport with me anywhere, only a photocopy which has always sufficed.

If you are over 65, you will need id or passport.

Would not see how being over 65 makes any difference

Carrying your passport (not a copy) is the law in Italy. Obviously each person can make their own choice about whether to carry it or not.

I think MuffyB is probably thinking of needing proof of age to get a seniors discount.

As LauralP says, carrying your original passport is the law for foreigners in Italy, but it is up to everyone to decide whether to comply or not. I must admit that on my numerous trips to Italy I never have, because I think it would be a bigger problem to lose it than to be stopped by police when I wasn't carrying it.

I do not think that there is any reduction for over 65's for this tour,

There is a discount for those over 65, I just booked it this morning.

I thought it said citizens over 65 and I assumed that meant citizens of Italy. Is that not correct?
