The duplicate is on Lousiana forum... As posted on your other post it is a long way and the cost would be high as you will have to pay for the 'empty' leg for the car to return. It would make more sense to take the train part of the way and then maybe private transfers each end to make things easier. Ekiprent@tiscali.it is a company used reguaurly for transfers if you want to get a quote.

Yes, as posted on the other thread....the cost would be close to 1,000 euros for a car and driver to Positano.

Trains from Venezia S Lucia to Santa Margherita Ligure-Portofino station cost from €18 in advance and €58.50 on the day. Even with the change of train at Milano Centrale, they are little slower than driving. See www.trenitalia.com clicking the UK flag for English and entering your 'hour' of departure e.g. enter '13' for 13.00. Bookable now 120 days in advance.

The ten minute taxi ride from Santa Margherita train station to Portofino costs €35.

I would recommend taking the train in Italy rather than driving or being driven unless you are very familiar with Italian roads and Italian drivers.

See both www.trenitalia.it and www.italortreno.it for timetables for various parts of your journey. Certianly, especially with early booking discounts, cheaper by train than hiring a driver and a car.

Italotreno does not run any trains useful for travel between Venice and Santa Margherita Ligure.
