Traghetti

My pocket guide to Venice gives details of traghetti in selected areas of the Grande Canal. We are visiting Venice for 3 days and are planning to do a lot of walking, but the traghetti could come in useful. Do they run on a regular basis and how does one pay?

They shuttle back and forth from one side of the Grand Canal to the other. Some run all day but some only run in the mornings.. You pay the gondolier.

Locals stand as they cross the Grand canal. Visitors, if they are brave and can withstand the swaying of the gondola in the wake of passing water buses, often stand but equally often sit firmly

Thanks for your speedy reply! I don't do swaying on water so maybe we will be doing even more walking!

The traghetti are fun and a very cheap way to say you've been on a gondola!
