Train from Venice airport?

Is the bus ATVO the best choice to book when we arrive at the Venice airport? We need to get to Verona? What is the number of the bus that we should book and what is the distance or time we can expect to get to the train station?

Best regards, Linda

There is no train station at Marco Polo airport. The nearest station is at Mestre on the mainland. It will take c. 20 minutes using the ACTV No 5 bus from Marco Polo to reach Mestre station. The No 5 bus does not have

good space for luggage so if you have a lot of luggage it might be sensible to take a taxi - cost c. 30 euros.

Lots of trains run from Mestre to Verona. See www.trenitalia.it for timetables of trains.

The ACTV n°5 bus DOES NOT go near the Mestre train station, it goes to Piazzale Roma passing around the outskirts of Mestre.

The n°15 bus DOES go to the Mestre station from the airport.

The n°15 bus does not have any special accommodations for luggage (the n°5 bus does, but isn't going where you need to go).

ATVO has a route between Marco Polo airport and the Mestre train station with a coach which has luggage storage under the seating area ("greyhound" style).

Both the n°15 bus and the ATVO coach from the airport cost the same €6 per person.

These replies assume that by 'Venice airport' the OP means Marco Polo. Some airlines call Treviso airport 'Venice Treviso'. If it's Treviso, there is an ATVO bus to Piazzale Roma, Venice.

Only the sly airlines and sneaky travel agents call Treviso Canova Airport as "Venice", as they do the same calling Bergamo Orio al Sirio "Milan" or Alilaguna calls Guglie as "(Ferrovia)". Amongst locals and anyone that knows Venice, you are more likely to find someone that calls Marco Polo by the older name "Tessera" than you are to find one that calls Canova by "Venice".

Thanks, just realized we need to take the bus to the S. Lucia station to get to Verona. Is this bus also available to take us to this station and is it just 12 km from the airport to the train?

Hi, thanks, it is Marco Polo and we need to go to the S. Lucia train station. Do you know if the ATVO is the correct bus to Verona? Many thanks in advance.

There is no bus that goes to S.Lucia station, simply because all wheeled vehicles stop at Piazzale Roma.

So, either you take an ATVO bus to Mestre as has been suggested, or take a bus to Piazzale Roma, and then walk to S.Lucia.

Any train that leaves from Venezia Santa Lucia train station going to Verona has as its first stop Mestre station, where you can catch the same train (about 10-12 minutes later than the Santa Lucia departure), so it is not necessary to go all the way to Piazzale Roma and then onto Santa Lucia station, unless you WANT to go to Venice to see Venice. If you want to get to Verona as soon as possible, Mestre station is the quickest and easiest solution.
