Logistics

Time in Venice and Florence... we are spending one week in October, near Lucca (Lake Massaciuccoli) and would like to see Venice and Florence, also. What would be the ideal airports/train stations to use to visit these 2 places (enter and leaving Italy) before we begin our week near Lucca?

Fly into Florence Peritola if you can find a flight that will go there or Venice Marco Polo or Milan(Malpensa or Linate). If you land in Milan it is easy to take a train to Venice or Florence. It will be best to fly into one city where you will begin your visit and fly out of the airport closest to the last city where you will be before you fly out.

Venice train station is Venezia S. Lucia,

Florence train station is Firenze S. M. Novella. Milan main station to Venice or Florence is Milano Centrale.

Pisa is the international airport most commonly used both for Lucca and Florence. There is a good train service from Lucca to Florence and then fast express trains from Florence to Venice. Both these cities need more than day visit to appreciate their splendours - 2 or 3 days absolute minimum.

For all train timetables and fares se www.trenitalia.it and for the Florence - Venice run there are also trains from the alternative company www.italotreno.it

Train is much more efficient than flights for internal journeys in Italy. apart from very long distances such as travel to Sciliy

It sounds like flying into Venice, staying 3 days and taking a train into Florence for 3 days and then a train into Pisa to start our week in Lucca, does that sound like the best option? Many thanks for your information and response.
