Travelling from Verona to malcesine

We are planning to go to a wedding in malcesine next year and transfers to malcesine look tricky. Thinking of staying in desenzano then heading to malcesine can anyone tell me how to get from either Verona or desenzano to malcesine as it appears there is no direct boat service.

We are both a little too old to consider car hire, but can easily negotiate and afford public transport

Ant tips would really appreciated many thanks

Hi, when next year?

Desenzano is not the easiest place for getting to Malcesine as it would be two buses or a very long ferry trip to Malcesine. The ferries travelling the length of the lake are few and far between.

If you want to stay at the south of the lake then Peschiera would be better as at least you could get to Malcesine by bus, but staying in Malcesine itself would obviously be better for attending the wedding.

Will you be travellling from the centre of Verona or the airport?

It would also help to know when you will be travelling as transport options change at different times of the year. Desenzano del Garda is not the best for getting not only to Malcesine but generally around the lake.

Hi thank you, we will be travelling in June and intend staying in malcesine, so hopefully going directly from Verona to malcesine. The only reason for considering splitting the journey is we'd read desenzano was good for transport. However it now appears this is not so for getting from desenzano to malcesine

Personally I don't think Desenzano del Garda is the best for getting around the generally. When in JUNE are you travelling? If it's around after the 12th/13th June there will be a direct bus from the airport to Garda, then you would need a second bus to Malcesine. Maybe you could look at somewhere like Garda or neighbouring Bardolino, both have good ferry and bus connections as well as the direct airport bus.

we will be travelling after 15th June so to take a direct bus to Garda will be the perfect solution. I will check out the appropriate web sites for timetables et. Thank you so much to all you helpful contributors, your assistance is much appreciated.

Hi, we will post the new bus timetables on the forums when they are available so keep an eye out, or ask again nearer the time. There will be changes in September then again next June.

To attend a wedding in Malcesine it would be better to stay in Malcesine itself. If it's going to be a late night then you don't want to be worrying about how to travel back to another town as public transport doesn't run late.

When you are looking for accommodation you could look to see which hotels offer airport transfers. It is usually mentioned on sites like www.booking.com under 'services' or on individual hotel web sites. Some are quite reasonably priced.

I am staying in Verona for 3 days Oct. 7-10, 2017. I would like to take a day trip from Verona to visit Malcesine, take a cable car to Monte Baldo and then a ferry to Limone before returning to Verona. Can anyone help me with the logistics of this idea?

You have two options. You can take a train to Peschiera del Garda then bus 483 to Malcesine. Alternatively you can take a bus to Garda then either bus 483 or 484 to Malcesine, it's really just a matter of working which is best for you. These are the timetables you will need.

The buses between Verona and Garda are:

…verona.it/atv_www/orari_extraurb/pdf/164.pdf

You can purchase a combine bus and cable tickets, which will give you all day travel on the buses plus a discount on the cable car.

Malcesine and the cable are easily a full day but if you do have the time to visit Limone this is the ferry timetable

You could travel across on the car ferry as a foot passenger

Thank you so much for your input. I will take a look at the schedules you sent. Do you have any idea approximately how long it would take to get from Verona to Malcesine?
