Dolomites..Suggested village(s) for a day trip from Verona??

We have booked an apt in Verona in Oct for 6 nights and will have a car. We have never been north of the Venuto area, and would like to take a day and drive up to the Dolomites. Any suggestions on a couple of little villages we might target for our day trip? We dont mind the driving to see another part of the area.

Any suggestions on towns to visit within a days ride would be welcome. Thanks.

Dolomite lifts are closed in October - The time between trekking and skiing seasons.

Drive the autostrada (A22) towards Bolzano and then explore the gorgeous Val Gardena - Ortisei is exactly two hours from Verona, but you could then also explore nearby villages of Selva Gardena and S. Cristina.

You might also consider driving the Great Dolomite Road, the Strada delle Dolomiti.

Past Bolzano you can drive up Val Gardena, as suggested, and you will have access to Corvara, Badia or Arabba. This is the home of the Sella Ronda bike tour, you can walk on Piz Boé or Pisciadú, you can visit the First world war trenches at Lagazuoi, near Corvara, or Cinque Torre, nearer Cortina, and the area is full of many Via Ferrata.

Corvara is the largest village in Alta Badia, and you can get a decent cup of coffee and something to eat. There are chairlifts there (Boé and the Vallon, if they are open) meaning you can get high and have good views without too much effort.

Bolzano is full of industry but has some nice street at its centre.
