Bari to Almalfi coast -- train vs. private driver

There are four of us travelling. We're reluctant to rent a car due to driving on the Almalfi coast. Given that there are 4 of us, what are your thoughts on a train vs. hiring a driver? Train tickets appear to be $50 - $75 per person for a total cost of $200 - $300. Could we get a private driver for that amount?

It's a 2.5-3 hour drive from Bari to Salerno. You'd probably pay for both directions and it would be much more than that.

If you book trains early, beginning about 120 days from your travel date on the train, you can get some very discounted tickets.

If it is 2.5-3 hours, it would likely run about 300 plus EUROS, not dollars; you should start thinking in euros - you can check www.xe.com for current exchange rates - so, for example, in today's rate 300 euros would be just around $400.00.

They (obviously) charge for round trip and so that would be for 5 or 6 hours of driving time, stopping along the way for restroom stops, gas, salary of driver, etc -

Pricey - best to take the train and see if you can get the discounted fares mentioned above. (My 300 euro estimate is based on the 370 euros I once paid to go from Positano to Rome (about 3.5 hours) - but, that was over 3 years ago - prices of everything (insurance, gas, etc) has all just gone up. So, it could be more than 300 euros - But, you may want to check - if it is worth for each of you to pay about 75 to 100 euros each if you are unable to get the discounted train fares.
