Student Exchange in Taranto

My 16 year old daughter has been chosen to do a student exchange and a suitable candidate has been found in Taranto. The house is pretty central to the town but I am worried about the pollution side as I know it can be a problem. My daughter is asthmatic and has diabetes. The exchange is for the summer holidays. Does anyone have an opinion about this please?

I do not know what you are talking about. I live in Taranto and I consider it a pretty safe place.

I don't know why Fionella17 blatantly lied about Taranto, but she did. Blatantly and ridiculously.

cjsutcliffe, Taranto is an industrial town where the steelmill is closing. It's a nice town, with an important Italian Navy base, that's plagued by unemployement and pollution.

Your daughter won't spend her summer under a Tuscan sun, but she could learn about a difficult and painful reality.

This could be a life experience very important to her, but she must know where she's going and knowingly choose it. Talk to her.
