Sardinia in December

Hey there,

Planning my honeymoon in the 1st week of December. Would land in Rome and move to Venice to fly back. However, wanted an island in between and was suggested Sardinia. Not too sure if December would be a good time.

Request some one to throw some light on the following:

-- How to reach from Rome and further to Venice.

--Are there different islands like sicily? If yes, th best for a couple of days and how to reach that particular place

-- anu suggestion on accomodation and local hopping.

Venice is made of islands and you can tour to smaller islands such as Murano, Burano and Torcello. Sardinia is mostly a summer destination and in one week you won't be able to see 2 cities plus one island.

You'd have to fly from Rome Fiumicino to Olbia, Alghero or Cagliari. But in my opinion you don't have time even for the main island of Sardinia, let alone any more remote ones, nor is December a great time to go if you have some romantic beach in mind (December is mid-winter in Europe!).

In the summer, at least, it is possible to reach Capri from Rome on an organised tour: viator.com/tours/…d511-2390GRET14

Another possibility is Elba, which I think would take you at least 3 hrs to get to by train to Piombino marittima and then ferry (http://www.elbalink.it/ferries-elba.html).

However, really if you have just 1 week (you say 1st week of December so not clear if you also have the 2nd!) you should stick to Rome and Venice, or if you really must see somewhere else, stop off at e.g. Florence. It takes 3h35 by fast (Frecciargento) train from Roma Termini to Venezia Santa Lucia, and trains call at Florence, Bologna, Ferrara and Padua so these would be the most convenient places to stop off if you feel the need to. Or from Venice, if you have the time, you could visit nearby ski resorts in the Dolomites.
