Cheapest way to get to Sicily

I would like to know the most cost efficient way to get into Sicily. From flying from Canada.

Either from flying from Toronto directly to Sicily? Or Toronto to Italy then over to Sicily via plane/ferry etc.

As well any other solutions of best way to get into Sicily on a budget?

Cheers

Short of pricing every route, consider traveling off season.

When to Go:

There are few direct flights to Sicily – Most flights connect through Rome or Milan.

Eurofly offers budget direct flights from JFK in New York to Palermo (seasonal flights only).

You might also be able to find a good fare from Toronto to the UK, and there are some inexpensive flights from the UK to Sicily.

Buona Fortuna!

If you fly from Canada to the UK, I would advise against taking a budget flight from the UK to Sicily. It may be cheaper, but you will land at Birgi airport, which is miles from civilisation and will take you a further 2.5 hours to get to Palermo.

Hi pastamaster,

not everybody goes to Palermo,

and Trapani airport is right in the middle of one of the most intresting provinces of Sicily.

Archeological sites, medieval towns, natural reserves, islands, beaches and little villages are all within small distance.

I don't think a little wait at the airport for the bus is as catastrophic as you describe it.

How fare is your nearest airport?

You could also land in Palermo or Catania's airports from the UK, not just Trapani’s Birgi – There are many good flight options from the UK for Sicily.

And though Birgi isn’t the most convenient if Palermo is your ultimate destination, Salvo is correct, there is so much to see and do in Trapani province, and even into the provinces of Palermo or Agrigegento – Segesta, Erice, the Golfo del Castellammare (Castellammare del Golfo, Scopello, San Vito Lo Capo, the Zingaro Reserve), the Alcamo wine region, Marsala, Mozia and the salt pans, Trapani, the Egadi islands (Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo), Sciacca, Selinunte, Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples and Monreale.

You would have many option!
