Best Beaches/ islands

Hi ..we're traveling to Sicily in late June, spending 5 days in Cefalu and have 5 days to spare - for beaches or island hopping..any ideas? Have already been to Lipari (loved it!) and would like to try somewhere different but with the same unspoilt beaches and great local restaurants..thanks!

Welcome to the Sicily forums JaneDublin0!

This earlier thread discusses Sicily’s beaches.

Where will you depart Sicily?

Though Cefalù is quite special with its historic centre, fine beaches and good trattorie, you would have many other ‘local’ options - San Vito Lo Capo, Marinella di Selinunte, Favignana, Sciacca, Marina di Ragusa, Capo d’Orlando…..

Hi Jane, where you flying to/from? moving close to your airport will give you more holiday time.

If you fly to Trapani I suggest Favignana (Island) or San Vito lo Capo.

If you fly to Catania consider "Lido di Noto" and Marzamemi

from Palermo consider "Castellammare" del Golfo or Scopello

Marzamemi and the Vendicari area south of Siracusa is wonderful.

Scopello- Lo Zingaro is a lovely, beaches are pebble and Castellammare has great local restaurants, and the seas of the Golf of Castellammare are clean and beautiful, but the beach is always dirty.

Hi there, thanks for the responses - very helpful!

We're flying out from Trapani so maybe Favignana and the Egadi Islands would be the best option. What's the town like at San Vito Lo Capo - we're trying to avoid the crowds - is it a quaint little village or does it become very busy in early July?

Thanks again - really appreciate your help!

All of Sicily’s beaches are quite busy in July, but not as crowded as in August.

Will you hire a car? Are you interested in staying put or touring?

San Vito is a typical beach resort town, not really a quaint village – Neither San Vito nor Favignana would be good bases for touring and exploring since Favignana would require the ferry and San Vito is an hour’s drive up Sicily’s northwest headland, but if you’d like to stay put and just enjoy the beach, both would be good choices.

Favignana would also offer the opportunity to explore Levanzo and Marettimo, and you could also hydrofoil to Marsala.

If you plan to hire a car, the Scopello-Castellammare or Selinunte areas would better position you for touring.
