Best routes to Sicily

I'm leaving from MSP probably to New York, then please suggest any ideas... ultimately want to spend time in Sicily. I've heard New York to Paris to Naples, then overnight ferry to Palermo (any thoughts?)

Once in Sicily, my main interests are Agrigento and the Aeolian Islands... other things too, but these are the top two on my wish list.

I hope to leave as soon as mid-April, and ideally would like three weeks, but it'll probably be more like two.

I'm asking a lot in one post, I know, so responses to any or all parts are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

p.s. It's just my husband and I, at least for a while. He may leave after 10 days so I can celebrate a birthday on my own (my long-time wish) for at least another four days. I love off-the-beaten-path versus tourist attraction, and on a scale of 1-10, I speak about 6.5 Italian. Thanks again.

Hi less, you can fly from New York to Rome or Milan:

then from there (both airports) you will have over 15 daily flights to Catania and Palermo with Alitalia or several other companies.

No need to stop in Paris or Naples.

Welcome to Sicily 2RomeSoon!

In April, why not begin in Sicily and work north as the weather improves south to north?

This site is excellent for all flights to Sicily.

Meridiana no longer runs the service from Rome to Catania or Palermo - The service is now operated by Wind Jet.

But if you were to go to Naples first, this earlier thread discusses all transportation options from Naples to Sicily – Air Italy has also begun service between Naples and Palermo.

Naples/Salerno Area to Sicily Public Transportation Options:

You might also consider visiting the Aeolians directly from Naples – Avoid backtracking.

Naples to Aeolian Islands Overnight Ferry Description:

Will you hire a car?

If not, Agrigento is easily reached by public transport from Catania or Palermo.

SAIS Trasporti runs service from Catania.

And Autolinee Sal runs service from Palermo’s airport.

Cuffaro runs the service from Palermo.
