Hi

i'm planning to arrive at mid may for 5 days . Landing at Catania at Tuesday 7:00AM and leaving from Catania at Saturday at 23:00PM.

What do you think on the following plan ?

Tuesday – renting car from airport , going to Mt Etna by drive to Rifugio Sapienza and then take the funivia.

Driving to hotel at Taormina , staying at night at Taormina.

Wednesday – driving to Milazzo , taking the ferry to Salina . if possible the same night taking boat to see stramobli at night. Staying at Salina .

Thursday – Staying in Salina .

Friday – Taking the ferry back to Milazzo . Driving from Mliazzo to Mondello via cafelu .

Night at Mondello

Saturday – Long driving day to Segesta , Agrigento and back to Catania Airport

Welcome to Sicily yaniv1234!

This is Sicily, nice and slow....

RECONSIDER - This itinerary is overly ambitious for only 5 days!

May is prior to Sicily beach season, so reconsider Mondello – Mondello also lacks accommodations.

There’s no left luggage storage on Etna, and it’s always a risk to leave luggage unattended in a car – It could ruin your holiday, so don’t leave anything you can’t afford to lose!

Really reconsider your Saturday prior to a flight!

Are you arriving from North America when you get in at 7 a.m.? If so, I would suggest that driving in unfamiliar territory while jet-lagged and trying to tick off Mt. Etna and Taormina before you have even been on the ground for 24 hours may be asking too much.

In fact, I think that you may be trying to cram too much into your overall schedule. Segesta and Agrigento are each easily worth a day in themselves. Perhaps you could consider dividing your four nights in Sicily between Taormina and Syracusa, and seeing the many lovely sights (Etna included) in eastern Sicily from those two bases. It's a big island.

Sicily is a BIG island, the largest in the Mediterranean, and it's understandable to want to see and do as much as possible, and it is possible to enjoy nature destinations and historical sites, but this itinerary is a whirlwind with too much time spent getting places and too little time enjoying places.

wow man thats alot to do, the roads in sicily are not so good and its alot of driving. Why don't you consider just the east and north. For ruins you could go to Tindari which is close to milazzo as it has some greek ruins and an impressive church with a black modonna with beutiful views, and spend some adittional time enjoying cefalu, then its a strait drive back on your last day from cefalu to catania through the centre of sicily.

On this drive you could take a detour and visit piazza america and the roman house there.

p.s. for alot of driving consider driving between 1-3 as this is siesta time and theres not too much traffic.

Yes, you’ve underestimated driving times in Sicily – Tindari is lovely, and the mosaics are truly under-appreciated at Tindari....

But yes, even Piazza Armerina’s phenomenal Villa Romana del Casale....

Thank you very much for the feedback.

I'm certainly going to change plans.

Probably as you suggested focus on the east part only.

I revised the plan according to your feedbacks.

Tuesday [landing 7:00AM ,after 3h flight ]

Renting car from airport

Driving to hotel at Taormina (via costelmola)

Staying the day and night at Taormina.

Wednesday

driving to Milazzo , taking the ferry to Salina/Liapri

if possible the same night taking boat to see stramobli at night. Staying at Salina/Lipari .

Question : what is your suggestion – salina or lipari ?

Thursday

Staying in Salina/Liapri . taking boat to volcano island

Friday

Taking the morning ferry back to Milazzo

Driving from Mliazzo to Cafelu

Night at Cafelu

Saturday

driving to Rifugio Sapienza + and then take the funivia.

+ Driving to Airport.

another option is to go in Friday from Milazzo to a small town/village near Etna such as Novara di Sicilia or other nice village/Farm in the area [ Recommendation?]

stay the night at village/Farm and going to Etna at Saturday morning

Your feedback is highly appericated !

Do you have any recommandation between Salina island or Lipari ?

in terms of ferry frequency and cruises to stromboli ?

i'm looking for a nice place to spend a relax day and to take a boat trip to see stramobli

When are you arriving??

Castelmola is above and beyond Taormina – Arrive in Taormina, get settled, and then visit Castelmola.

Do you plan to ferry the car to the Aeolians?

There are limitations for bringing the car to the Aeolians in summer except for Salina. You could garage the car in Milazzo at Garage delle Isole.

There are many more excursions to Stromboli from Lipari, and Vulcano is also more easily reached from Lipari.

Your month/time of travel would also factor on the decision about Cefalù, but after time in the Aeolians, perhaps and agriturismo around Etna would offer some diversity of experience.

Consider Monaci delle Terre Nerre in Zafferanea Etna or Agriturismo Tenuta San Michele in Santa Venerina.

Consider Villa Enrica on Lipari.
