4 days in Sicily

Hi, we're going to be in Sicily for 4 days (really 5, but need to get there and back) Any suggestions of ABSOLUTELY MUST SEE? I know it's too short of a time to really do it justice, but we want to see whatever we can, and really want to see the one's that can't be missed. Also, Suggestions on a base town to stay in, or should we do multiple stays in different cities?

Thanks, Tabatha

Welcome to Sicily Jane S!

Where will you arrive and depart Sicily?

Do you plan to hire a car?

The Michelin Green Guide ranks destinations, and may help you gauge which destinations would be “must-see” destinations for you!

Hi, we're coming by train from Salerno. Don't know if we should stop along the way to Sicily, or go straight to Sicily. It seems like we should go straight to Sicily so we spend the most time in Sicily before we do Rome.

Yes, then divide your time between Siracusa and Taormina - See Mount Etna from Taormina and Noto from Siracusa.

Thank You. Is MODICA a must see for their chocolate? Or is chocolate just great everywhere, and not worth losing time over? Also, any great places to sleep for the two cities please?

Modica is a personal decision only you can make, but Modica is best experienced by living slowly. Modica is known for its very unique chocolate - A Chocolate Tradition Thrives in Sicily:

Modica’s Antica Dolceria Bonajuto chocolates are sold at Olive in Siracusa, via Cavour 27 (0931.1854246).

There are many wonderful accommodations in Taormina and Siracusa!

In Taormina (also above the town) – Villa Angela (above), Villa Ducale (above), Villa Carlotta, The Ashbee Park Hotel, Hotel Taodomus, Villa Schuler…

In Siracusa, Palazzo del Sale B&B, L’Approdo delle Sirene, B&B La Via della Giudecca, Hotel Livingston, Royal Maniace Hotel, Algilà Ortigia Charme Hotel....

And if you'd like to stay in Modica, then perhaps spend a night in Taormina, and then divide your remaining time between Modica and Siracusa, ending in Siracusa for proximity to Catania's airport.
