10 days Sicily in June while pregnant

Dear all,

It would be great if you could help with our itinerary!

We are flying to Catania on 17th of June, will get a car rental for the entire stay (until 28th of June)

Now this is what we have booked so far:

1 night in Catania (BB Ottomood) 17 to 18th of June

2 nights in Cassibile (Agriturismo La Casa di Melo) 19th to 21st of June

we thought that maybe from 18th to 19th we can visit Etna if the weather permits. any agriturismo which is favourable there?

We thought from Cassibile we can visit Siracusa (ortigia), Noto and Fontane Bianche beach and also the nature reserve close by.

I think we will also stay a night in Ragusa (recommended BB there from a friend but not booked yet) and visit Modica from there too.

Now my question is how to continue...as mentioned I am pregnant (in my 6th month)

shall we visit Scala dei Turchi or not advisable? What about Agrigento.

We are also planning to drive inland towards Palermo, to maybe see some vilages and sleep at Agriturismos. Then see Palermo, visit Mondello and San Vito Lo Capo...is it worth the drive?

Would be really glad for any recommendation!

All the best,

Daol

Welcome to Sicily Daol86!

Your itinerary is a bit scattered.

Are you also departing from Catania?

If departing from Catania, then see Catania at the end of your itinerary to position for your departing flight.

Hire the car at the airport after you depart Catania. You wouldn't need nor want a car during your time in Catania.

If you were to see Catania at the end of your route, then return the car at the airport, and take the bus to the city.

So perhaps begin in Cassibile.

You might end around Etna depending on the time of your departing flight if departing from Catania.

There are many agriturismi around Etna, but perhaps consider Agriturismo Tenuta San Michele.

You could add a day to Siracusa, and day trip to Catania from Siracusa by train or bus. Visit Catania early morning, any day but Sunday, and allocate half a day.

And rather than change hotels for one night, you could day trip to Ragusa from Siracusa as well, or add another night to the area around Ragusa so you can at least enjoy one full day. The Ragusan coast is lovely.

Perhaps allocate a day if only seeing Agrigento, and a day and a half if also visiting the Scala dei Turchi. There's no reason you can't visit the Scala dei Turchi! You might spend one night and the following morning, but then arrive at your next destination for the night.

Then perhaps enjoy a Madonie agriturismo on your way to Cefalù.

Reconsider Palermo with the car.

Like Catania, avoid driving in Palermo. Perhaps consider a base in Cefalù, and take the train from Cefalù to Palermo for the day.

Sicily is a 2-week destination, and you are short time for San Vito Lo Capo.

If you'd like to spend some time in Western Sicily, then tweak your current itinerary, or perhaps depart from Palermo instead of Catania to save time doubling back.

Best wishes and congrats!

Thank you Vagabonda!

I thought of staying a night in Catania because we will arrive quite late (5:30pm) and we don't want to drive in the dark, trying finding the agriturismo. So we thought exploring Catania on the next day as a start. The. Driving down the coast towards Siracusa. Any location recommendable to stay overnight there? Or better stay in Cassibile and do everything from there! Thanks for the suggestions, any agriturismo you can recommend around Ragusa, and in the Madonie? Thanks!!!

Prego Daol86,

Expect sunset at 20.30 in June, so with an arrival at 17.30, you would have several hours to arrive at your first destination.

Ancient Ortigia is Siracusa's charming historic centre, and the most scenic area.

If you plan to begin your itinerary in Catania, and you also plan to depart from Catania, then position for your departing flight with a final stay around Etna.

Beginning in Siracusa or around Etna, and ending in Catania would better position for your departing flight.

There are many wonderful agriturismi around Ragusa province - Relais Torre Marabino, Villa Quartarella, Nacalino Agriturismo, Agriturismo Il Granaio, Masseria Cianciò, Villa Cannizzo....

This earlier thread (and links) discusses agriturismi in the Madonie.

Madonie... best way to tour the towns?:

The Masseria Maggiore is a well-positioned base for exploring the northern coast, the Madonie, and the Nebrodi.
