Busy traditional pretty resort

Could anyone recommend a traditional but busy resort/town in sicily, with plenty of culture but lots of interesting local and international shops and a nice local hum, on the coast or within couple of miles. lots of cafes and restaurants and somewhere not charging too much of the tourist rate . would agrigento be suitable. Taormina looks nice but looks v expensive is there a locals town nearby? want to sample local cuisine.

Taormina is the town. Although taormina is the most expensive resort in Sicily, Sicily is less expensive than Mainland Italy, and it is possible to stay in Taormina on a budget.

Nearby Giardini is a less expensive beach resort town, and then you could visit Taormina.

Agrigento is a local town, not a resort.

The temples are the major attraction in Agrigento, there's little else to see and do...

Siracusa would offer much more, a scenic and historical town on the coast, and highlight in Sicily but not touristy as Taormina, very nice and with more local life than tourism

Typically a day suffices in Agrigento.

Ortigia in Siracusa is lovely, but not really a resort. Siracusa amicably blends local life and tourism, and although you could enjoy local culture, you wouldn't find international shops.

If you prefer a less expensive resort town, then perhaps consider Cefalù.
