What to do in Catania

Hello to anyone who is familiar with Catania, I have a question. Our tour company just switched hotels on us for our first night in Sicily/Catania which I am not happy about. The original hotel was centrally located and now the hotel they have switched us to ,HOTEL VILLA DEL BOSCO, is not centrally located. Per the hotel reviews, there are not any shops nor restaurants in the area and we will have to take a cab to wherever it is we would like to go. Anyway, we will have the entire afternoon to spend in Catania. Does anyone have any suggestions of where we should take a cab to? Would be interested in shops and good food.

Thanks

Go to Piazza Duomo (Cathedral). Most of the important tourist sights are within walking distance. Pay a visit to the tomb of Opera composer Vincenzo Bellini inside the Cathedral, then visit his home nearby. Many lovely baroque buildings are along Via Etnea, which goes north from Piazza Duomo. After walking about one kilometer, you can hail another taxi to take you back to your hotel.

You are really not centrally located at all!

What day of the week and what time would you arrive in Catania?

The market, shops, and city would close midday.

Half day free, before flight from Catania:

Hi again Vagabonda -

Yes I am not happy at all they changed the hotel on us 2 months before the tour begins. We booked a non refundable early morning flight out of Venice thinking our hotel was downtown within walking distance of everything.

Our flight arrives Catania Airport at 11:45 am on.Saturday September 21. We would need to go to our hotel first to drop off our luggage.

Yes we are only one night in Catania - depart the following morning for Siracusa.

Contact Radio Taxi Catania – You might contact in advance for a small fee, about €2,00.

Perhaps enjoy lunch first, possibly around the fish market at a trattoria like Osteria Antica Marina, and then explore Taormina’s historic centre.

Hopefully the remainder of your holiday will go as expected - The best!
