Getting from Catania to Salerno by air

Vagabonda

Need some Assistance, will be in Palermo startin Sept 16, 2014 for 4 days, then taking a tour to southwest Sicily and going to Taormina and then trying to get to Reggio Calabria or Salerno, on

September 20.

I saw that there was a flight from Catania to Salerno, and then backtrack to Agropoli.

,I thought I saw a flight on bravofly. but I cannot get any flight information

I need to get to Agropoli and not sure of the best way of going.

Should I take a ferry to Calabria from Catania or Messina and then a train to Agropoli, to my family or to Salerno and backtrack.

Mostly everything else is covered, need to get to the family, the most important part of our trip

The destination from Sicily is to Agropo, how ever I have to get there, and we will be there 65 or 6 days and then from Agropoli to Rome 2 days before we fly home to America

Thanking everyone who would be able to help me

There are currently no flights to Salerno airport and haven't been for a couple of years; I am not aware of any definite changes for 2014. From Catania, you can fly with Meridiana or Easyjet (from 30 March - don't know about September) to Naples or Blu Express to Bari.

You can take a DIRECT train from Catania (starts at Siracusa) to Agropoli-Castellab. at 14:56 arr. 22:52, end destination of this train is Milan; or there is a night train from Catania to Salerno (heading for Rome), dep. 22:54 arr. 06:45, where you can change for Agropoli (arr. 08:13). Obviously these also involve the ferry between Messina and Villa S. Giovanni.

Don't know about ferries to Salerno.

Salve vngonz,

Hope you are well!

Do not take the train - The service is horrific, not even food service, and dirty toilets.

There is no ferry from Catania to Salerno, but TTT Lines runs overnight ferry service from Catania to Naples, and then you could take the train onward.

But take the Caronte ferry from Messina to Salerno.

6. Re: Getting from Catania to Salerno by air

Yes, all trains from Catania continue from Villa S. Giovanni (after the ferry arrives there from Messina) to Agropoli etc.. If you want to start in Villa S. Giovanni, there are a couple of direct trains a day (10:27 and 18:45 - this second one is the one that departs Catania at 14:56 arr. Agropoli 22:52), and several in between where you would have to change at Sapri. Why not just look on www.trenitalia.com - using current date corresponding to the same day of the week.

Of course bravofly will permit you to search for flights from Catania to Salerno, however that does not mean it will find you one, no matter what date you put in! Statistics on Wikipedia show no flights since 2012: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salerno_Costa_d'Amalfi_Airport#Statistics (which were not much more than 1/2 those in 2011). The airport's own website can only give details of companies that HAVE flown to/from the airport in the past, and no current flights. You can always check out the companies concerned if you think they might start again in 2014: www.aeroportosalerno.it/default.aspx…

Do not take the train Veronica. You would find the journey challenging with luggage and your mobility issues.

Vagabonda

Should we then go be plane to Naples, and backtrack by train to Agropoli

We arrive in Rome and then take a plane to Palermo, do as much as we can and then go see the family and just enjoy them. I was thinking about changing the direction and going to Torchiara first, from Rome, but then I have to change all the hotels and tours.

with Regards always

Veronica

Hi Veronica,

You could fly from Catania to Naples.

Fly Alitalia, Air Italy (Meridiana), or easyJet from Catania to Naples.

If you were to fly Alitalia, book via the Italian website for the least expensive "Promo" flights.

Save Money By Booking Alitalia Flights “Like a Local”:

roninrome.com/transportation/booking-alitali…

You'll appreciate the proximity to Rome for your departing flight.
