Dont miss Savoca

Friends,

i just wanted to share my superb experience visiting Savoca, a mesmerizing place where one of the very famous scene of Godfather was shot - Al 'michael corleone pacino's wedding to Sicilian girl....

Well if you have to go to Savoca, follow these steps:

1. From Taormina bus terminal, take a bus to Santa Teresa, which cost about 1.6 Euros (i dont remember the exact ticket price, but it was not more than 2 Euros). From Santa Teresa, you will see a sign for SAVOCA. You need to catch the Jonica bus company which runs from Santa Teresa to Savoca(ticket should be 2 Euros approx - Take return ticket, back to St. Teresa) and the bus schedule can be found at the bus stop or better if you ask the locals, but try to brush your italian as they would tell you the time in italian :)

Anyways, once you reach savoca, the bus will drop you near BAR vitelli, where Al pacino asked for the hand of beautiful sicilian babe...

Friends, i must tell you that Savoca is still in pristine condition, as pacino & coppola would have left, so dont miss Savoca when you visit Taormina next.

Oh those streets and cute houses and that scenery...

Try also for Forza D'agora, which i unfortunately missed :(

Let me know if anyone of you has any queries about Savoca

Hi SundanceKiddo – thanks for the great report and the public transportation connections from Taormina to Savoca.

Just last week, I submitted many photos of Savoca, so hopefully TA will post them shortly.

Savoca is mesmerizing – the hills, the views out to sea, the paths and alleys, the Bar Vitelli, the Chiesa di San Nicolò/ Chiesa di Santa Lucia, and the Convento dei RR. PP. Cappuccini.

No, not from Letojanni.

Savoca is not the most convenient town to visit with public transportation.

You could take Etna Trasporti or the train from Letojanni to Santa Teresa di Riva.

http://www.etnatrasporti.it/

www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp…

Santa Teresa di Riva is your gateway town to Savoca.

Then take the local Jonica Trasporti (schedules found at bus stops) from Santa Teresa di Riva to Savoca.

Jonica Trasporti E Turismo Srl

Via Primo Settembre,37

98122 Messina

Tel.: (+39) 090771400

Enjoy - Lovely town.

The ride itself isn’t very long, but service is limited.

Check departure times.

Hi Vagabonda,

I've looked at the website for the bus service.

Can you please tell me the approximate time it takes from Messina - Savoca; Savoca to Taormina. I'm coming from Messina. I'm wondering if it's possible to combine Savoca and Taormina in one day.

Thanks!

It wouldn’t be possible to really see Taormina and Savoca on public transport in a day. It’s not so much that distances are far, as much as public transport services are limited.

If you were to drive by car, Messina is about 45 minutes from Savoca, and Savoca is about 20 minutes by car from Taormina.

There are excursions from Taormina and Messina to Savoca.

Take Interbus to and from Taormina, but consider an excursion to Savoca.
