Torre Faro - Pylons of Messina

Hello!

I'm going for my holidays to Sicily in May/June.

Please answer my questions:

Is it possible to visit the pylon on the Sicilian shore ?

Is it open every day ?

What are opening hours ?

How can I get there (by public transport) from Messina city center ?

TIA

Hi. What you mean exactly with "pylon" in Messina? Pylon of what? Electric power Pylons?

Yes, it’s possible to visit Messina’s Pilone di Torre Faro. They are located on the beach.

They are free and open every day – It’s better to visit during the day, but your visit will be dictated by the bus schedules.

From Messina’s train station, take the Tram (line) – There’s only one (#28) to the last stop. Then take #78, 79 – Look for summer locales, Mortelle/Torre Faro.

The pylon is 232m tall, there is no lift and you will have to use a stairway with 1250 steps to get to its top!

Thanks a lot for your help.

I have some doubts about bus lines (according to ATM Messina)

www.atmmessina.it/orario.asp…

Does CAVALLOTTI mean Piazza Cavalotti and STAZIONE C.LE mean

Messina central station and bus 79 goes circular route ?

Does bus 78

go to Torre Faro or do I have to get off a bit earlier ?

TIA

From Messina’s train station (ME C.LE - Messina Centrale), there’s only one Tram - LINEA 28. Take the tram to the last stop.

http://www.atmmessina.it/linea_tram.asp?id=3

Bus #79 specifically lists Torre Faro.

Thank you for your help but I still have some doubts about this connection.

It seems to me that bus 79 starts at Piazza Cavallotti (near Central station)

and then goes Via Alemanna , Via I Settembre , Duomo ....

So I don't get what is the point to take tram 28 and then change to bus line 79

instead of taking only bus 79.

Am I right ?

Yes, you are correct - I checked with Messina's ATM (0902285211).

Take N° LINEA 79 to the Pilone di Torre Faro. Messina's TI had suggested LINEA 28.
