Palermo in August - where to stay with a car?

My husband and I are attending a wedding in Palermo in August. We'll be in the city for 5 days and were thinking of renting a car for day trips. From what I've been reading, it seems like driving around Palermo is a hassle. So I was thinking maybe we could get a hotel in some other town in the area and make Palermo a day trip, instead of staying in the city itself. Any opinions?

I would suggest to stay in Palermo and use public transport for daytrips (Cefalù, Agrigento...) .

Driving in and around Palermo is an hassle, but in nearby towns isn't much better, especially in august, And consider that nearby towns aren't very attractive, often busy as hell in august, and have a more limited accommodation choice.

Prego Sofia2905. There are many daytrips possible from Palermo without a car, by bus, Monreale, Erice, Segesta, Agrigento, Cefalù...more than enough for only 5 days (and the wedding in the middle!)
