Baggage/restaurants near station

Hi all, we are planning to catch the overnight train up to Naples. We are in Catania for 3nights but as it leaves there quite late(two young kids with us) we’re thinking of travelling down to syracusa late afternoon to then get on the train earlier there that evening. This would give us a few hours in Syracusa so I was just thinking of finding a restaurant and having a relaxed dinner there.

Would we be ok to take two medium rucksacks into a restaurant...they’d fit under the table easily I’m sure. Could also someone recommend a reasonably priced child friendly restaurant in the station area?

It will be a Sunday so from what I gather the luggage storage options stop mid afternoon hence the question.

Hi, it's been a while since I was there, but "La pecora nera" is a pizzeria that could be fine; it's quite informal, has a good choice of pizza (gluten free options too) and is located between Ortigia and the station.

Get to Siracusa much earlier in the day, and enjoy Siracusa.

Yes....

There is luggage storage in Siracusa near the train station at Station Bar, but then a Sunday would be an issue with an early closing.

And why the station area?

Head to Ortigia, and enjoy lunch.

You'd be fine at Bar Artale on via Landolina. Enjoy the arancini and cannoli!

And then gelato at La Voglia Matta on your way back to the station.

All for a great lasting memory of Sicily!

Thank you, it’s the luggage that’s the issue that’s stopping me wanting to get there earlier...it will be August and likely very hot so I’d rather not be carrying our bags far in the heat. Even collecting them at 2pm would leave a long time before the train leaves.

My thinking was that we can leave them at Catania while we enjoy the last day there before heading to Siracusa to get the night train. We’re travelling up through Italy and seeing a lot of places so I don’t feel the pressure to try to squeeze a day in Siracusa I just need to think of it as a brief stop off to get the train.

Weren't you anticipating getting the train from Siracusa instead of Catania?

August isn't likely hot.

August is VERY hot!

Catania is one of the hottest destinations in Italy.

You might leave your bags in Catania, either at your lodging, or at the left luggage storage.

Consider seeing Siracusa another day when you can better appreciate Siracusa, and then just depart from Catania.

Yes that’s the plan to get the train from siracusa rather than Catania as it’s too late for the kids by the time the train reaches Catania, so it was literally just a trip to a siracusa to catch the train but due to it being Sunday and hot I didn’t want to carry our luggage very far hence why I’m looking for places near the station.

Station Bar might even close at noon on Sundays.

So unfortunately you would either carry your rucksacks, or arrive just in time to catch the onward train.

But consider Onda Blu at via Elorina 13.

I would like to continue this conversation for the luggage. We will also be in Syracuse for the day on a Sunday and would like to go to the Archeological park but do not want to carry our luggage. Does anyone have ideas for Sunday luggage storage?

Erica M, where will be coming from? Is it possible to arrange to store your luggage there, if you're returning there?

There are no other options on a Sunday in Siracusa other than booking an inexpensive room for the day.

LOL is near the train and bus station, and wonderful.
