Welcome to Sicily jlutes!

Do you plan to hire a car?

Noto is an easy day trip from Siracusa by bus, and you could easily day trip to Catania by train or bus. Ragusa and Modica are reached by AST bus, but further afield from Siracusa.

Other day trips (Etna, Taormina....) would connect via Catania.

Boccadifuoco runs group bus excursions from Siracusa.

We wouldn't be renting a car so will be looking for guided tours, preferably off beaten track, wineries, etc.

Plenty to see in Siracusa itself. Greek and Roman theatres side by side, the cathedral (Duomo) built within the columns of a Greek Temple amd other acheological sites some of which are in the city centre. For days trips there are cities of Ragusa, Modica and Noto and I am sure that you find excursions to these places if you are without your own transport. Slightly further afield but possible by train are Catania and Taormina (with its Greek Theatre). Taormina station is at Giardini about a mile as the crow flies from Taormina but about 600 feet beleow it. Fortunately there is a connecting bus service. Again you might find there are coach excursions from Siracusa. Finally between Catania and Taormina is Mount Etna, Europe's most actiive Volcano and excursions to this should be available from Siracusa.

Without a car, you could certainly take the public transport, consider the group bus excursions, or consider hiring a driver for destinations further afield.

The only public transport to Etna is a once daily AST bus from Catania, so take an early train or bus from Siracusa to Catania.

You might also consider an excursion to Etna from Catania.
