May is a good time of year, not too hot, as it can be in high Summer,

Taormina is lovely, a chic resort, scenery to die for, in May it should not be too busy, you can bet a good idea of Hotels from the list on the left, and the reviews will give you good insight,

May is really a very lovely month to visit Sicily – Good temperatures, fewer crowds, wildflowers…

Taormina When to Travel Guide – Hover over icons to retrieve values:

weather2travel.com/whentotravel/index.php…

Taormina’s beach season really starts in June, but also by the end of May.

Consider Hotel Villa Taormina, Villa Carlotta, Villa Angela, Hotel Taodomus, Villa Ducale…

Where will you arrive in Sicily – Catania, Palermo or Trapani? Sicily offers many other options besides Taormina.

Manchester to Cantania for flights. Do you think package holiday or independant. We can't decide between Sicily and Maderia so I think it will be down to price as we have been told by travel agent that both are expensive. We might try to do both in the year if costs are in budget. Also if we can't do May for Sicily we will probably go September. Just want to avoid peak times.

April to June and September to October are the best months for visits to Sicily - Temperatures are mild and there are fewer crowds.

Sicily doesn’t have to be expensive. There are reasonably priced B&B accommodations and trattorias - High quality, authentic and local experiences.

With an arrival in Catania, Taormina or Siracusa would be excellent choices.

Ancient Ortigia is a historical destination with many reasonably priced boutique B&B options like Palazzo del Sale, and many excellent trattorias serving delicious local cuisine.

You would have much more control over your purse with independent travel.

Siracusa is easily reached by direct Interbus from the airport. The direct Etna Trasporti runs the service from the airport to Catania.
