day-trips from taormina in october?

we will have a car and we'll be in taormina 4 nights (3 full days), then ortigia for 4 nights. we are thinking of a "mini-cruise" to limpari and vulcano, and a trip to etna as 2 day-trips. looking for more options from taormina, we like small, old towns, and beautiful scenery. can anyone suggest some possible trips within 2 hours by car?

The most fantastic place to go is less than 30 minutes from Taormina, it's gole alcantara best of all it's free if you use the stairs down. It's a wonderful natuaral go urge that you can swim in. I would also suggest when you go to entangle, leave early in the morning drive into Catania and go round the fish market, then an early lunch at the market before of to etna.

Check water levels prior to going to Gole dell'Alcantara, especially in autumn, and especially after rain.

If you like small, old towns, you surely wouldn't want to visit Catania, Sicily's second largest city, but if you did visit Catania, avoid driving in Catania.

Park at the airport, and take the Alibus to the city, or take public transport from Taormina.

Since you enjoy smaller towns, you might enjoy touring some of the lesser known towns around Etna, and perhaps also visit wineries in this area.

Or you might enjoy a drive along Etna's northern flank to Randazzo, and also onward to Maniace and Bronte’s Nelson Castle.

Then you might combine Savoca with Forza D’Agrò.

Hi bodhijack,

Forza D’Agrò and Savoca together are delightful.

You might enjoy Acireale, or the coastal villages of Acitrezza and Acicastello.
