7 Days in Tuscany

Going to Italy Aug 30th to have 2 days in Venice and then drive down to someplace central to visit Florence, Sienna, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, Lucca, Viareggio, Pisa, and surrounding areas. Will take in as much as we can without trying to see everything.

The plan so far is,

Aug 30th Venice,

Aug 31st Venice,

Sept 1st Leave Venice for some place South or West of Florence

Sept 2nd to 7th same area travelling around to the aforementioned towns and countryside.

Sept 8th Depart for flight from Bologna.

Was thinking of staying in the one location as time is short but what I was looking for would be some town not too far from Florence. Do not want to stay in Florence because of the parking etc, etc. The town would be big enough to have restaurants to walk to in the evening and still be able to get public transport to Florence for a days visit. Would be grateful for any advice and suggestions, as we have found the forum of great help so far.

Siena matches your needs well. Very convenient bus or train to Florence. Excellent restauarants and night activity when you return from your daytrip. There are a few hotels that have free parking and are within the walls of the Siena.

This is where we have based our selves for our trips to Italy.

Any minor town in Chianti should be suitable.
