tuscany between rome and florence -2 days

we're a couple who have four days in rome and four days to get from rome to pisa to fly out of Italy. Planning on spending two days at florence where we would drop our rental car at the airport and then train in.

Can anyone help with an itinerary for the two days and nights inbetween rome and Florence, Would montepulciano, Siena, san gimiganano, castellina and greve be a good plan across these two days and what would be 2 towns to stay in. We will most likely have a car but open to suggestions.

Many thanks :)

you are trying to see too much

it is a big area

if you drive on the motorway you wont see anything and if you drive backroads it is very slow

each town takes 2 days to look around not 1 hour after you deduct driving times

take the train and stop in one town

go to Cortona like the movie Under the Tuscan Sun

easy to reach from the train (by taxi)

old city and buildings, views, walk in the countryside, good places to eat, relax and enjoy

I would base in Siena or nearby and tour via car. Note that Siena has public car parking at a fee but you cannot just drive around the city at will. It is mostly closed to cars.

This was some tripping around we did out of Montepulciano/Pienza which are nearby.
