Church Holiday May 30th

I apologize if this appears twice for I tried to post once, and I don't see it. We were so very lucky to be in Pienza on May 30th. It is a lovely town with very warm and friendly people. They were having a holiday where the town's people were creating a carpeted runner of flowers throughout the town. Once church services were over, the priest came out and walked through the town. We were wondering what the name of the holiday was and any back ground information that might be of interest. Once again, it was a wonderful experience.

TABarrett, thank you so much. This explained so much and was sooooooooooooooooooooooo interesting. I would advise anyone to plan their Italy trip around this time of the year. For a gardener or lover of flowers, this could the pinnacle of your trip. It was ours. ...and Pienza is a jewel to be enjoyed.
