Cinque Terre Day

We will have only one day to explore and plan to drive from Lucca to LaSpezia (early October.). We wish to walk one portion of the trail (maybe an hour or so) and ride the train between the other towns. We also want to take the boat ride for the scenery. Can any one suggest an itinerary?

Thanks so much!

Unfortunately the short flat Trail from Riomaggiore to Manarola has been closed for most of this year due to a rock fall and is not forecast to re-open until sometime next year. The other relatively short Trail currently open is that between Vernazza and Monterosso but it does involve climbing a considerable number of stone steps both up and down , but there are excellent views. It takes around a couple of hours depending on your walking abillities.

If you are to include that in your day trip suggest you take the train to Vernazza, walk the Trail in that direction to Monterosso. After relaxing on the beach in Monterosso take the ferry from the habour to Manarola or Riomaggiore and then train back to La Spezia.

If you are not up to walking that Trail suggest you get the train from La Spezia to Monterosso, after looking around return by train to Vernazza in time for lunch. After lunch take the ferry to Portovenere , stopping at the other villages on the way. You can return to La Spezia either via the local bus or by the ferry to Riomaggiore and then train back to La Spezia. Altho this does sound rather complicated the triain time between the villages is only a few minutes but you will have to watch the timetable !
