special place to eat /stay / drive for Looming 50th Birthday

Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay/eat for a 50th birthday. We like good food and good views but not overpriced so called "posh" restaurants

We are flying into Florence in late October this year and spending 3 nights/2 days there. Then on my birthday we are hiring a car and heading off somewhere for a memorable birthday evening (we hope).

We have 6 further days in Tuscany before flying out of Pisa. We are completely open minded in which direction to head. We are looking to get a sense of the countryside.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Il Ristoro di Lamole, high above the Greve Valley in Chianti, certainly fits the bill. Casual yet elegant, delicious food and wines and a breathtaking view. http://ristorodilamole.it

Less expensive but absolutely wonderful is Fattoria Montagliari, on the SS222 just below Panzano. This is one of our favorite places in the area - we eat there at least twice a month. You'll enjoy scrumptious home made food and beautiful wines in a warm, convivial atmosphere.

There's no shortage of good places to stay in the area, ranging from basic, comfortable b&b's and agriturismi to high end (and expensive) digs.
