renting a car in Lucca/Florence?

We are trying to rent a car in Lucca to drive to Cortona on Saturday Nov 2 and all rental agencies seemed to be closed the entire day (possibly because of the Holiday on Nov 1?). Plan B is to take the train to Florence and rent a car there and drive to Cortona. Is there a rental agency by the train station and how difficult is it to get out of that part of town??? A little nervous driving out of Florence.....thanks for any help!

I would take a train from Lucca to Pisa airport and pick up a car there, thus avoiding the need to drive in central Florence (and making sure you don't fall foul of the ZTL and bus lane cameras)

Good suggestion---I had tried other places around Lucca but they were all closed too. Pisa airport car rentals are open that day however so I booked thru Hertz.! Thanks so much!
