Driving from Impruneta to Cinque Terre, then on to Milan

How are the roads from Florence to Cinque Terre and then from CT to Milan Airport. Is it better to take the train for this route? We are staying 2 nights in Impruneta (family of 4) then heading to Cinque Terre for 1 night. We'll have driven from Rome to Impruneta. Should we ditch the car for the train in Florence, or are the roads good and it will be good site seeing as well as more efficient for our family?

Probably easiest to drive to la Spezia and ditch the car there.

A car is of little use in the Cinque Terre, the roads are poor and parking is problematic. Only consider keeping the car if you are staying at accommodation with its own parking.

The roads between La Spezia (or another exit from the A12 autoroute) are difficult. They are often quite narrow and have continual sharp bends.

Apart from those local roads, you can do most of your journey to Milan on autoroutes, which are to much the same standard as a US Interstate.
