Guided day trips Greve in Chianti to Cinque Terre/Tuscany

Hi everyone

My husband and I are staying in the town of Greve in Chianti (without a car); and would like to pre arrange a couple of day trips - to Cinque Terre; and around the hilltop towns (such as Siena and S.Gimignano) including a winery/farmhouse tour/lunch. Can anyone suggest a good (small group) tour operator / driver? We will be there in early September 2014. Many thanks in advance.

For Cinque Terre I always recommend Giovanni Sirabella because I know from personal experience that, unlike a lot of drivers, he knows the back roads behind the Cinque Terre and can organise a tour where the distance to be walked matches the wishes and capabilities of the visitors. http://www.sunflower-tours.com/

For a tour of the hilltop towns - first, I would substitute Volterra for Siena in a tour, and go by taxi to Sienna for a day. For the tour you could use Sergio Ceccherini ( http://www.scenicwinetoursintuscany.com/ ) or Angela Saltafuori ( http://www.tuscanwinetours.net ) - they are both good. Angela is located a bit closer to Greve.

Hi tuscan

Many thanks for your recommendations and tip about Siena. I have emailed Giovanni so am awaiting his response regarding availability, etc. Sergio was not available for our dates. I will also contact Angela.

I was interested to hear if anyone knows of other guides too, just in case.

Grazie :-)

Hi there, did you have any luck booking a day trip from Greve to CT? We'll be in Tuscany for our honeymoon in early September also and everyone we know is saying we should try to see CT if possible however most tours leave from Florence and not the country. I've contacted the suggested companies above however wanted to see what you ended up doing. Thanks!

Hi there

We ended up hiring a car when we arrive by train into Florence (p/up Florence airport) for 3 days as we're staying in the country too (no car hire near Greve).

The recommended tour guide didn't get back to me, and another one was already booked for our dates. Another private tour company could have accommodated us but the cost was way beyond our budget for a day trip to Cinque Terre (but it is a private tour in a lovely Mercedes). If you want to splurge ... since it's your honeymoon, here are their details:

We're leaving for our Euro trip this Wednesday so very exciting! I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip too.
