Florence to Amalfi?

We have booked to stay 2 nights in Florence (flying into and out of Pisa) in Mid September but also want to spend about 5 days relaxing in a seaside/beach resort. Is it worth catching a long train to the Amalfi coast or are there some closer fantastic resorts, for example is Viareggio worth a visit for 5 nights?

Thanks.

A.

There are closer beaches. Viareggio is rather classic and a bit old. If you like nature, go to the Maremma. For further ideas, look under www.rivieratoscana.com/en/ct/default.asp

Enjoy your journey!!

IMO ther is nothing that compares to the Amalfi Coast. Positano, Ravello, Amalfi....like little jewels to be enjoyed in total peace and relaxation. Capri is a bit more crowded and hectic, but every bit as enjoyable.

HAve you looked at Liguria - Moneglia is lovely and not well known to the Brits and is not too far from Pisa.

Would florence to Amalfi be a manageable trip? Or would you say it would be too far?

From Florence you could take a Trenitalia train to Naples station and then from Naples an hydrofoil direct to Amalfi
