Florence and Pisa, where is best to stay

We are looking for information on where to stay that is farily reasonable....50 euros....for 2 nights. We want to visit Florence and Pisa and also detour to a town called Volterra. Would someone know the distance between all three and what place would be best for 2 days to stay to commute between.

Thank you...

Have a look at www.viamichelin.com for travel distances between the cities you are interested.

Also, have a look at www.trenitalia.comfor train connections. There is no train service directly to Volterra. It will require some bus transportation.

It would be difficult to see all three places in 2 days. In fact, it would be difficult to see Florence and Pisa in two days.

For your accomodation budget then check both Florence and Pisa for hostels.

Save Volterra - a truly wonderful town - for another time. Stay in Lucca (30 min. by bus from Pisa, one hour and ten min. by bus from Florence.) 50 Euros per night will be tough, especially in Florence or Pisa...you'll come closer in Lucca. Hotel Puccini has a double for 85 Euros per night. Lucca's great to "come home to" after long days....pleasant, quiet, great food.

I disagree with the above post, Volterra is a must, but 2 days is very little to be able to absorb these 3 important places. Will you have your own transport? If so you will be able to 'see' all three.

Florence-Pisa 40-45 mins, Pisa-Volterra 1hr 10 mins by car.

All the best!

Lucca is the way to go and drop one place....trains are good and pisa or florrie can be intolerable at certain times due terry-tourist overload.
